A Few Thoughts From Our Pastor, Rev. Dr. Bob Clipp

The Apostle Paul reminded his readers that when a single part of the body is hurting, we are all hurting. Once again, the ugly face of racism and hatred has appeared. It is easy to label this as a Republican issue or a Democrat issue. The truth is, if I choose to place the blame solely on the other, then I am not following the Christ that I claim to follow. I saw a post on Facebook today that spoke about personal comfort and a strong faith as being the key to happiness. How can anyone be comfortable tonight? The horrors of the scenes in Charlottesville, Virginia continue to haunt me. I hope that none of us can rest peacefully tonight! If I can shut out the world with all the suffering from my own secure setting, then I can just as easily shut out the Christ who bids me to follow where ever that may lead.
The first step for us to heal is to let go of our own personal arrogance that says "I am right, therefore you are wrong." Jesus taught us to love everyone, especially those who would seek to do us harm. It is in that spirit that I pray first and foremost for those persons who believe that they are privileged because their skin color is white. I pray that they might be touched by the life changing love of Jesus. I pray for the victims of all acts of violence this day, not just here in our land, but around the world. I pray for our President and the leaders of this nation that they may discover anew the life changing power of God's love and God's grace. I pray for the leaders of the world that they may be guided by that same love and grace. I pray for me, that my heart might be touched anew, that I not find it easy to shut myself up in the comforts of my own home, but boldly stand up for God's amazing grace this day and always.
If I do this, if we all do this, then maybe, just maybe, we will see the world begin to change!! That is the power of God's amazing grace!!
